GR Pro Secateurs
GR Pro Secateurs
The one you won’t put down (unless you lose it in the weeds).
There is a very good reason the Niwaki GR Pro Secateurs are a cult favourite among the dirt-obsessed. They represent that elusive "sweet spot" where high-end Japanese craftsmanship meets the rugged, daily grind of a working garden. These are tough, robust, and hold an edge that’s almost intimidatingly sharp.
Drop-forged and hand-finished in Sanjo, Japan, these secateurs use KA70 carbon steel. It’s a material for the true believer—hard-wearing and exceptionally precise. The feel is purely functional: a satisfyingly chunky catch at the base and a strong spring that makes every cut feel like a minor victory.
And then there are those yellow grips. They are a stroke of genius for anyone who has ever spent twenty minutes hunting for their tools in a pile of mulch. For the traditionalists among us, you can slide them off for a more classic look, but we find the "don't-lose-me" yellow quite endearing.
The Ritual of Care:
These are precision instruments, not bolt cutters. To keep that edge surgical, avoid the cardinal sins of cutting wire, plastic, or stone. Treat them to a regular spa day with a #1000 grit stone, some Crean Mate, and a coating of Camellia oil. Do this, and they’ll be your most loyal companion for decades.
