Hakari Clippers
Hakari Clippers
For those who find a straight line a bit... pedestrian.
Meet the Hakari Clippers. They have all the legendary snap of Niwaki’s topiary clippers, but with a curve designed specifically for the organic, rolling contours of your cloud-pruned masterpieces and wavy hedges. If you’re serious about your box balls or smaller-scale yew clipping, these are your new best friend. (A word of warning: if you’re looking to trim a straight hedge, look elsewhere—these are strictly for the curves.)
Handmade in a small, family-run factory in Yamagata, Japan, each pair is a unique piece of S58C steel craftsmanship. Because they’re hand-forged, the curvature of the blade may differ slightly from pair to pair—a quirk we celebrate as the mark of the maker. They arrive in a hard-wearing canvas pouch with a spare spring, ready for a lifetime of devotion.
Included: A sturdy cotton pouch and a spare spring (for the long haul).
The Ritual (Usage)
Japanese steel is incredibly hard and frighteningly sharp, but it requires a bit of "insider" knowledge to keep it that way. Treat these with the respect they deserve:
Usage:
- To avoid chips, keep them far away from wire, metal, stone, or plastic.
- No twisting or uneven pressure—let the steel do the work.
- Cut diagonally across branches to follow the fibres, and use the base of the blades for your heavier cuts.
