This isn’t for your kitchen pantry; it’s the high-energy byproduct of sugar cane refining, specifically chosen to activate and expand your EM1 Garden or EM Garden Boost. It’s essentially the ultimate microbial buffet, providing the food source your microbes need to wake up, multiply, and get to work.
The Ritual of Expansion
For those who love the science of the soil, brewing your own EM Ready to Use (RTU) is a deeply satisfying ritual. To make a 10-litre batch of expanded EM, you’ll want a 5% dilution of EM1 Concentrate with 5% Molasses. Here is the process:
- Cleanliness is key: Use sterile equipment and chlorine-free water. (If your tap water is chlorinated, let it stand in a bucket for 24 hours first).
- The Slurry: Dissolve your molasses in a container with about 30% hot or boiled water. Stir until smooth, then top up with cold water. Add your EM and stir again.
- The Incubation: Seal it with a lid (or an airlock if you’re fancy). You need to keep this concoction at a steady 25-35°C for 7 days. An aquarium heater set to 30°C is the insider’s trick. If you’re not using an airlock, remember to 'burp' the lid daily to release the gas.
- The Result: After 5-7 days, your EM-RTU is ready. It has a shorter shelf life than the concentrate—best used within a week, and definitely within two months—making it perfect for those large-scale garden applications.
Store your liquid gold in a sealed container at room temperature, tucked away from the sunlight. When it comes to application, treat your expanded EM-RTU with the same dilution rates as your EM1 Concentrate.
