The Basic Blade Set is Japanese tool care with nothing you don't need. A Naniwa #1000 Sharpening Stone, a Naniwa Rust Eraser and a bottle of Kamaki Camellia Oil. Three things, one job: keeping your carbon steel sharp, clean and rust-free for longer than you'll keep the receipt.
Picture the end of a pruning session. Rust Eraser over the blade to lift the sap and the first hint of orange. A few strokes on the stone, soaked first, its concave edge following the curve of your secateurs. Then a thin wipe of camellia oil and they're put away better than you found them. Ten minutes, little and often, and your blades will outlive your fence.
The right place to start for anyone who has just bought their first carbon steel tools. Or the gardener who has owned good ones for years and only now admits they have never sharpened them.

What's in the set
- Naniwa Sharpening Stone #1000: concave edge shaped for curved blades, 136g. Made in Osaka, Japan.
- Naniwa Rust Eraser: 50mm x 40mm x 20mm, alumina abrasive through the full thickness. Works dry or with water or oil.
- Kamaki Camellia Oil: cold-pressed camellia seed oil blended with white mineral oil. Non-toxic, odourless. Made in Japan.
Materials & Care
- Sharpening stone: soak thoroughly before every use. Rinse and air dry after.
- Rust eraser: use dry for a quick touch-up, with water or oil for heavier rust.
- Camellia oil: keep the rubber bung in place and store the bottle upright. Laid on its side, it may leak.
