Weathervane Marlin
Weathervane Marlin
A dramatic point of view for your garden.
For those who take their garden’s orientation as seriously as their soil pH, we present the Marlin. This isn’t a mass-produced afterthought—it’s a functional, sand-cast piece of New Zealand-made theatre. Handcrafted from aluminium and brass using traditional methods, it’s designed to stand tall while the elements do their worst.
Finished in a resilient powder-coated black, the Marlin offers a striking silhouette against any sky. We’ve ensured the movement is famously smooth, utilizing a ball-bearing system that reduces wear and keeps the rotation satisfyingly precise. Whether you're tracking a southerly or simply admiring the craftsmanship, it’s a feature that demands attention.
Installation is straightforward (we’ve even welded a plate to the base for you), but we do suggest a spirit level and a little grease for the axle. Precision matters, after all.
The Ritual (Installation):
- Choose a prominent, open position where the wind can find it.
- Source your non-corrosive fixings (bolts or screws) based on your mounting surface.
- Position the bottom plate and use a spirit level to ensure the stem is perfectly vertical before tightening.
- Assemble the NSEW cross by pushing the Lock Washer into position.
- Align to North using a compass and tighten the lock bolt firmly.
- Apply grease to the axle.
- The Critical Step: Ensure the ball bearing slides up inside the axle to rest on top of the shaft. This is the secret to that frictionless rotation we all crave.
