This is the one we've been quietly obsessing over for a while now.
The new bugg® Limited Edition range is here, and it's the first collection of products designed from scratch under the bugg® name, made right here in Auckland. Not imported. Not relabelled. Designed by Sally, built by skilled makers, using materials chosen because they actually perform in the garden, not because they look good on a mood board.
Six products. Two colourways. One very strong opinion about what garden gear should be.
Why We Made Our Own
We've always been picky about what we stock. Every tool, every bag, every pair of secateurs at bugg® has been chosen because it meets a standard we're genuinely proud of. But there were gaps. Gear that existed in the market but wasn't quite right. Tool pouches that looked great but fell apart after one season. Totes that were either too flimsy for real garden work or too stiff to actually enjoy using. Kneelers that were either uncomfortable or ugly. Sometimes both.
So we made our own. And we took our time doing it.
The Materials: Chosen for the Garden, Not the Catalogue
Every piece in the Limited Edition range is built from materials selected for how they'll perform after a hundred hours in the dirt, not how they photograph on day one.
The Khaki Range
The khaki pieces combine two proprietary fabrics that are central to the bugg® identity.
Bullduck ripstop canvas forms the structural base across all three khaki products. It's a 50/50 cotton-polyester blend woven with a reinforced crosshatch pattern that makes it genuinely tear-resistant. If you snag it on a branch or catch it on a fence post, the tear stops at the next reinforcement thread instead of running the length of the fabric. It's also weather-resistant, lightweight, and built for outdoor life.
Packduck wax canvas is used for the tote sides and kneeler top. This is 100% cotton canvas treated with a wax emulsion proofing that gives it effective waterproof performance. It develops a beautiful patina over time, ageing with character rather than deteriorating. A word to the wise: it will shrink if soaked and machine washed, so spot clean only.
The binding on the khaki tool pouches and totes is NZ military grade khaki webbing. The same binding used on New Zealand military uniforms. We told you we were serious about gardening.
The Denim Range
The denim pieces are built from 420gsm heavy-weight denim, a fabric that ages beautifully with use. Like a good pair of jeans, it softens and develops character the more you wear it. The base fabric is Bullduck ripstop canvas for structural integrity.
The denim range is for gardeners who want their gear to tell a story. Every grass stain, every soil mark, every crease is earned.
The Products
Tool Pouch, Limited Edition ($128)
Available in Khaki and Denim
Five pockets and a tool loop. That's your secateurs, your snips, your twine, your phone, and your pruning saw all within arm's reach. No more trips back to the shed. No more losing your favourite secateurs in the long grass.
The Tool Pouch wears across the body or as a belt, with an adjustable strap that fits properly rather than dangling around like an afterthought. It's designed for the gardener who moves through their patch with purpose, not the one who parks in one spot.
Khaki version: Bullduck ripstop canvas body with NZ military grade khaki binding and standard webbing belt.
Denim version: 420gsm denim body with NZ military grade khaki binding and standard webbing belt.
Tote, Limited Edition ($162)
Available in Khaki and Denim
The tote that goes from the garden to the farmers' market without skipping a beat. Four external pockets, one internal pocket, and webbing handles that feel solid whether you're carrying hand tools or a haul of tomatoes.
This isn't a novelty garden bag. It's a proper working tote built for real use, with a base that stands up on its own and pockets deep enough to actually hold things.
Khaki version: Packduck wax canvas sides, Bullduck ripstop canvas base, NZ military grade khaki binding, webbing handles.
Denim version: 420gsm denim body, Bullduck ripstop canvas base, NZ military grade khaki binding, webbing handles.
Dimensions: 250mm tall x 240mm diameter.
Kneeler, Limited Edition ($112)
Available in Khaki and Denim
Five centimetres of foam between your knees and whatever the ground has going on. Cold, wet, hard, rocky, it doesn't matter. The bugg® Kneeler is 520mm long and 220mm wide, with a webbing carry handle so you can tuck it under your arm and move between beds without a second thought.
We didn't reinvent the kneeler. We just made one that's comfortable, looks good, and doesn't fall apart after three weekends.
Khaki version: Packduck wax canvas top, Bullduck ripstop canvas base, Dynaproofed corespun stitching, webbing carry handle.
Denim version: 420gsm denim top, Bullduck ripstop canvas base, webbing carry handle.
Dimensions: 520mm long x 220mm wide. 5cm foam.
From the Gubba Family Tree, With a bugg® Polish
If you've been with us a while, you'll know the name Gubba. Sally's father David Graves founded the Gubba Garden Bag in 1988, a proper Kiwi invention that's been loved by New Zealand gardeners for over 30 years. Sally took over the business, launched the bugg® rebrand, and has spent the years since building a store that reflects her own exacting standards.
The Limited Edition range is the natural next step: bugg®-branded products designed and made in-house, carrying the same philosophy that's guided every decision since the beginning. Quality wins. Always.
These are limited production runs, made in small batches in Auckland. When they're gone, they're gone, until the next run.
Care Instructions
Khaki range (Bullduck ripstop canvas pieces): Spot clean or hand wash cold. Air dry, do not tumble dry.
Khaki range (Packduck wax canvas pieces): Spot clean only. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. The wax proofing is effective but the cotton canvas will shrink when wet.
Denim range: Spot clean or hand wash cold. Air dry, do not tumble dry. The denim will soften and develop character with use. That's the point.
